You did it! Congratulations and Happy Day!!!

I don't have acid reflux [GERD], but I do have SIBO which is sometimes caused by Hep C infection. In my case it was probably from intestinal surgery and adhesions and just exacerbated by Hep C, but it can be caused, they think indirectly, from Hep C, either by a damaged liver not able to do it's job or a malfunctioning pancreas causing insulin resistance/diabetes which leads to trouble downstream. This comes to mind because many people who have it, also suffer from GERD and use lots of PPI's like Zantac. Here is just one book on it:http://digestivehealthinstitute.org/2014/07/08/what-really-causes-acid-reflux-gerd/

Also the Fodmap diet from Monash University seems to be helping lots of people. It's one I've used and like, as well as the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. They will say it's for SIBO or IBS but it has been working and is recommended for folks with GERD who often test positive for SIBO.

Sorry for that mouthful. It's a bit complex.

Anyway, I'm hopeful for us both, that as we continue to heal, our digestive troubles will disappear. I think not having a boat load of viscous viruses doing a non stop assault on your body has got to help!

Here's to healing!

Hugs,

Rudi

4L, I had horrible digestive issues before treatment. I mean I could eat one big meal and it literally felt like it would just sit in my stomach for a couple of days! Now, I can workout very hard with dumbbells and eat all day long with little or no digestive issues, BUT I do take probiotics at least a couple of times a week and now, I'm back eating mostly healthy foods.

Yes I had on and off again gastritis prior to even knowing I had Hep C.  I just found out I had in this past November and started treatment a month later.  My stomach felt great during treatment.  I was able to drink coffee which normally causes me some troubles.  As soon as I stopped Harvoni it got super bad within two days.  Worse or different that I had before.  I never blamed anything on Hep  C because I didn't know I had it for 40 years!  Looking back (hindsight is 20/20 afterall) I think many things probably were suspect because of the virus.  Either way I am happy to be free of it.

CONGRADULATIONS SVR12.  I wanted to share that up to 13 years ago i blamed all my problems on HEP C.  I had stomach trouble which started when I was 40.   They put me on Previcid and said it was acid reflux. The meds really never helped.  2002 new doctor did a bunch of tests and said I had a gluten intolerance.  Along with the stomach, I had skin complexion issues, weakness and fatigue and no energy.  After 90 days of absolutely no wheat or gluten products I was off all meds and feeling much better.  I had never heard of wheat and Gluten Intolerance but it was exactly what was going on for me.  It might be worth an evaluation.    Good Luck!  and welcome to SVR12!

That is so exciting fourlocos. I have been waiting to hear your results because you were so worried. I understand that as I was too but it worked for both of us. Now I am waiting on +24 and that doesn't seem as nerve wrecking. I sure hope they find the cause of your tummy problems. Once that is fixed you can start feeling fantastic like you have earned.

Congrats 4L!

i wouldn't worry about your doctor's misunderstanding of your situation. The important thing is that you're SVR 12! There are many GI specialists out there that don't even know about the 12 week eot standards after tx. I know it's frustrating but you did it!

Be well!

Congrats Fourlocos!!! You beat the dragon!!!  biggrin Good for you for sticking with the treatment and keeping fit with exercise.  Those hikes with your dog are so worth it.

Sorry to hear that you're still having stomach trouble.  I remember you were having those problems before treatment too.  Do you think it could be from something other than HCV and treatment?  Just wondering if your doc should be checking for another cause.  Though HCV and the treatment could possibly have effects like that. Hopefully you will feel better soon.

Best wishes to you.  On with your HCV-free life!!!

- Tess

Thank you all so much.  Only this group understood what it took to DO IT!  Friends and family just didn't get it.  Heck even my GI doctor doesn't get it.  When he called me today with the news I was shocked since I literally spent ten minutes with this man once.  When I told him that I was elated to hear the news but wasn't feeling well he didn't say much.  I told him I wasn't alone in this after treatment funk.  I told him about a forum I relied on for support and he asked me if others were feeling unwell also.  I told him yes.  He said nothing.... he was like let's see how you are in Nov when I test you again.  I mean he is a GI doctor.  I told him I was living on Zantac and he didn't say come in and see me etc.  It was sort of weird to me.  If the stomach thing doesn't resolve I will take my primary doctors offer to find another liver specialist to see.  He told me in another phone call earlier on in treatment they would do another liver ultrasound after six months and now he said there was no reason to do one since I was SVR.  Oh well......

I am grateful it worked!  Hopefully others on the 8 week plan will see it does work!  Checking again in November.  Now hoping I will feel better by then.  Thanks to everyone who helped me get to this point.
