It isnt such a stretch to stick with yhe protocol. Set by manufacture. And or the fda:  look for assistance . It is out there. If your dr says 3cycles.  That is whst needs to be done

It is my hope there is nobody considering cadhing in 401k. Or mortaging their house to get or continuing. Trestment. Dont do it.!!!!!!!!! Dont take a loan. Anything like that. It is not necessary.. if you find you or a loved is in that position. Stop them. It isnt neccesary. The money to treat is attainable more so by the day.

There. Are those here around when this started for me. I am the second perdon to break thru the money wall and the heslth system i was in has now has had 800 people thru treatment... the money is ouy there and it will grow. They have finally at the point thst ultimately. Less ecpensive to treat for the cure rather than wsit and treat...

Dont use retirement funds your bank account. Etc.

It depends on genotype, fibrosis stage, previous treatment etc. Can't believe you had to cash in your 401k. Did you try gilead support path?  Other have been refused harvoni have managed to get on the Vic Pak which has great results as well. If your paying $32,000 for each month, it's quite a decision to add the third month.

I had one complete unopened box of rebetron left from my first treatment, still in the wrapper. They wouldn't take it back. Said no way to know how I handled it, where I stored it etc. They would never be allowed to give it to somebody else, at least in Canada. While most people can be trusted, when meds are this powerful and expensive, the chances it wasn't handled properly would be too great to risk it.

I asked her about using the box, and she said I could if I wanted to. That it wouldn't hurt me, although I think it could have hurt me, as we now see the lasting effects of these strong meds, and it was Inteferon and RIBA.

It's a shame, as somebody could use this, for sure. Not sure how you could get it to somebody who could use it though. I would not be able to throw it out, burn it or anything like that. I'd probably keep it and hope to be able to use / donate it to someone someday.

Hey Luke,

Welcome to the forum from me too! You will meet a lot of caring and knowledgeable friends here, that I know! We're all nothing but concerned about your safety and success in achieving SVR and Harvoni is a golden bullet without a doubt.

I agree with Grouper, try hard to find an outlet for that extra bottle. Were I in your shoes, I'd ask your doctor to give consent to use the extra bottle. It only adds to your odds of success, even if it's slight. I wouldn't be able to destroy something so valuable. Certainly not before I had that EOT +12 undetected (SVR12) report in hand.

Whatever you choose to do, congratulations on fighting for treatment and getting it done! SVR is sweet!!! Good luck...

Lukeone, my apologies if I came off short to a first time poster on the forum.  Just seemed a bit odd that someone's first post would be a poll about burning or flushing a bottle of Harvoni. I found this link: http://www.ncsl.org/research/health/state-prescription-drug-return-reuse-and-recycling.aspx  If you scroll down it gives state by state prescription drug return policy.  There are lot's of wonderful and knowledgeable people here, always willing to share.  Hoping you find SVR.  Be well

In looking at the dates on the laws in the link above I suspect some may have changed (the dates in many cases aren't current.)

Very strict laws regarding dispensed medicines. They would not be allowed to take it back, even unopened. Same for all prescribed medicines. Too much at stake I'm afraid. What a waste, but truthfully, the cost to make that bottle is not even in the same galaxy as what they sell it for.

Luke, did you open the meds knowing that they weren't going to be used by you?  Did you contact the pharmacy that sent them?  Perhaps you should contact your specialist?  I suspect there are physicians out there that would find a use for this.

Why fishy? My primary said it would be destroyed if turned in.  My point in posting was to bring awareness to the waste of resources in the Federal Government.

Thanx

Luke, call your physician and tell him/her what happened, they will make use of the medicine.  Hope your 4 and 12 week eot labs come back undetected.  Burn it? Flush it?  I don't think so. This sounds fishy to me.   Take care

Greetings,

I the new guy, and I began the new Harvoni treatment on 03/21/2015 and as of today there is no, ZERO virus detected in my labs.  I am so happy, but let me say it was a difficult path to success.  The involvement of my Congressman and my Senator were required to get my medical provider and pharmacy to finally get the treatment.  I was only in stage one, and their so called protocol required me to be sicker.  I said to hell with that, and fought and won.  There is a strange occurrence though is totally unbelievable.  Because of my early stage genome 1, my provider set me up for the sixty day treatment which as I mentioned was successful.  Low and behold the pharmacy sent a third months supply by accident.  What is so ironic is I have to dispose of, or destroy the $30,000.00, thirty day supply, of this miracle medicine they sent me by mistake.  They can't take it back once it leaves their facility.  What a waste
