Day 14 and all is well.  Update as follows.  No headaches.  No gastro issues.  Another burst of energy today so I went to the gym 20 min weights 1/2 mile swim.  Have managed that workout 8 out of the 14 days.  So happy to hear about the folks posting happy news here.  Prayers to all.  G  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBsq8lEk2Us

Hey G,

I'm impressed that you have the ability to smoke your Ranger nephew! I've got a son in law that is at Bragg and his physical conditioning is second to none. If you can keep up and surpass that, while on treatment, you'll get through this with flying colors! Just hydrate and rest when your body tells you to. No sense blowing a gasket with the amount of time it takes to complete these shorter courses of treatment. Use common sense and realize this is only temporary. Good luck!

Thanks...Guru...1/2 mile in the pool again tonight.  A little tough.  Trying to go to the gym every other day.  We'll see how that goes.  I just got in the best shape of my life this summer at age 60.  Smoked a Triathlon in June. Top 22% in the mens division and took down my 44 year old former Army Ranger nephew by a couple on min. So I'm not interested in just going back to zero.  Not gonna happen.  I'm coming out the other end of this ready to rock.

Hi G man,.

Glad to hear things are going well and the sides aren't bad.  You'll really be smiling when your first labs come back :)  I had started an exercise routine but somehow got out of it.  Maybe I can follow your lead.  Be well, getting started on tx is a true blessing.

One week down.  Some observations from my end.  Hydration seems to be key.  Increased my water intake.  The first few days were a little tough but the last two days have been really very good.  Bursts of energy now and again.  Last night, about the time I go to bed, I felt really good.  I'm not finding this to be at all something I can't live with.  That said it's early.  Back to the gym tonight.  I have found that the day after I work out I feel the best.  Zero headaches.  Zero gastro problems.  I've gained 1-1/2 lbs. this week.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this continues.  Prayers to everyone.  Have a great and positive day.

Good luck Gman, from another Gman :)   The Harvoni is a piece of cake compared to past tx, you'll do fine, just don't forget to take your meds.  You have a birthday tomorrow and I have an anniversary.  Time flies when you're having fun.  Welcome, and be well.

Anyone that admits to a birthday is trolling for a greeting, lol! With that request in mind, I'd like to wish you a heartfelt:

 Hello G Man.

I envy people like you who can stay so focused on keeping your body in top physical shape. It takes commitment that I often can't seem to stick to. I am committed to focusing on treatment though and I do eat healthy, take my meds on time and stay well hydrated. Yes this Harvoni should be a breeze compared to your past treatment. I never treated with Peg, but I did with Ribavirin and this time with Harvoni is much easier so far after 6 weeks. Welcome to the forum and if you see some abbreviations in other members post and their signatures that you are not familiar with, a list of definitions are posted in a thread located HERE.

Enjoy! smile

Hi G Man, welcome!

I agree that being in good physical shape before treatment can be a big help, as well as having a positive attitude.  You`ve been through the `bad old days` of Peg/rib treatment and those durations must have been tough, especially the 12 month stretch, and I`m sure you`ll find this time around a lot easier.

Even so, be prepared to slow down if you need to.  The key is to listen to your body, as I`m sure you realise.

Best of luck!

Went dual treatment Peg twice between 2001 and 2005.  Almost killed me. 12 mo. the first time.  6 months the second.  Like living with the flu.  Geno I  4m on the load.  Whatever.  It's go time.  As for taking it easy at the gym..I'll cut back as needed.  I know my body.  The side effects from Harvoni are like eating cake compared to that duel treatment.  But it's early.  We shall see.

Hey G,

Welcome to the group! I'm glad you have the treatment underway, Harvoni is one of the best available. Physical conditioning is always important, just don't overdue it during treatment. It doesn't have to control your life, but do keep it in perspective. These aren't like the old protocols, but they are still powerful drugs and take their own toll on your body. It's important to stay rested, hydrate properly and of course, eat a balanced diet. I'm sure you're aware of that, but don't push your body too hard during treatment. 12 weeks of taking it easy isn't unreasonable.

If you would, can you provide some information? Things like genotype, viral load, LFT's, fibrosis stage and past treatment Hx are helpful when replying. Good luck with treatment. I look forward to following your progress. Lots of good people here. I'm sure you'll be hearing from the gang soon!

Day 4 Harvoni - Went to the gym last night. Lifted weights and knocked down a 1/2 mile in the pool. Feeling OK. I got myself in some of the best shape of my life over the last year in preparation for treatment and a triathlon I ran in June.  I think getting in shape before beginning treatment will prove to be beneficial.  I suggest others heading to treatment do the same.  I plan on going to the gym throughout this treatment.  I'm not going to let it rule my life.  That is my plan and I intend to stick to it.  Plus I think it helps your mental state.  3 months of this is nothing compared to the dual treatment I went through a few years back. Prayers to all.  This too shall pass.  My best always, G.
