Hi Ari,

Thanks for the update, you have an excellent way of delivering the news! I think you have a doctor that is a real keeper. She has a wonderful way of keeping you informed and sounds very concerned with your care. That's one great big plus!

I like your attitude Ari! Your statement "There's nothing to worry about until there's something to worry about" is perfect. I'm going to remember that bit of advice and use it.

Keep us in the loop, please. I enjoy hearing from you and will be anxious to know how your procedure goes, we all will. Now get out there and rustle up those unruly little chicks! That's a funny pictire in my mind right now! I can see you going one way and a dozen little chicks going in all directions, lol! Good luck!

Hi Ari,

so good to hear that your blood tests looked so positive.

a big thanks for all the information you shared.

And the end of the post, when you stop writing to get the chooks out of the veggie patch, brought us all back to the "life rolls on" so just enjoy the big and small incidents of every day, rather than peering out the window looking for steam rollers which aren't in sight yet. It was inspiring.

Hugs,

Syd

hi Ari,

As I sit with my coffee and read your post I want to thank you for sharing all the items your doctor and you discussed. Very informative. Glad your next procedure is on the books and we will be here cheering you on. Keeping the faith!

My son and I saw my Gastroenterologist today. Doctor is very happy about the SVR. She also said:

That my diabetes test results are excellent - better than the average woman in my age group.

My iron levels, stores etc are all good, no supplements needed.

Albumin in normal range, just. Had been below or dangerously below for last 5 years so definitely improvement.

Liver enzymes all in normal range except one that is usually out with cirrhosis. Platelets also low as can be expected. On the accumulative results on the computer screen my son and I could see way less red figures than a year ago.

That coffee is good for livers is not just a rumour, it's pretty much proven.

There are rumours that statins may be good for cirrhosis - that new evidence was coming out that it is ok to prescribe. She is writing to my Dr to do cholesterol tests and that if I need them it's ok to prescribe statins.

That ibuprofen for pain relief is not a good plan if you have varicose veins in oesophagus (which I have).

That having large numbers of people cured of Hep C is recent and there is not yet much data on what to expect, however with regards to cirrhosis the two main factors to whether it can be reversed, apart from level of damage, are alcohol and obesity.

That she could not say whether my liver would be one that regenerates or not as it has decompensated in the past. It may recover, it may not, we will know in a couple of years. (As I don't drink nor am I obese I think my chances are good.)

For the first time in the more than a year since it was first detected she called my lesion cancer - she has never said that before, and she is cautious about what she says so it probably is, although we won't know for sure until it is biopsied. She said my chances of getting liver cancer are only slightly less than they were before SVR and that if the current lesion is cancer then my chances of getting it again are higher than if it isn't.

Doctor said I need to keep taking the Fortisip (high protein/energy supplement) for at least the next 6 months to make certain I am well nourished before and post surgery. And she reminded me to always have supper so my liver has a steady amount of food coming in - no long breaks between meals/snacks!

When I have the lesion ablated I will be in under the Gastro Dept and they will be watching out for decompensation and be right onto it. She has already booked the procedure  and is expected to happen in the next month or so.

My son and I came out quite positive and confident that the situation is as good as it can be. And there is nothing to worry about until there is something to worry about!

Right now I'm going to get my free ranging chooks back into their coop before they destroy the veggie patch.

Yes well I have always had a warped sense of humor (Humour for the Canadians, the Kiwi's and British people in here) . I hope you still aren't upset Canada left you smile

Dave,

Of course I pressed it because I trust you and have more protection on this computer than the American Government ones that got hacked ... Not funny but seemed appropriate for some reason.  Now you just need to rewrite the code for the Board here an incorporate it. Ok? Thx smile

Congrats Ari,

You sure deserve this victory. Battle well fought. WOOT!

It's was difficult for me changing my mindset to socializing without a glass of wine, but now, it's pretty normal. If I'm home and hosting, I have my own bottle of no alcohol wine I drink, which is quite good. If I go to somebody else's party, I bring my own cans of spritzer or ginger ale. Nobody even questions it, in fact there is usually one or two others who aren't drinking either. My friends are liking the fact that they have a designated dd along all,the time. I think society in general is changing regarding the need for alcohol. It's nice to see even the younger generation opting more and more for no alcohol. Our local high schools have what's called "safe grad" where they bus the kids all around the place all night long - swimming, bowling, pizza, sports - all with no alcohol.

Now you need to concentrate on living your best healthy life. Get that liver slowly back in shape and enjoy your hep c life and all the great things it will bring. Here's to much more improvements as the months go by. Great job Ari!

Hey Everyone - thanks for all the good wishes and the laughs. I'm still trying to get used to the idea I am starting to get well - the possibilities are mind boggling.

My first thought when I heard Virus Undetected was to seriously party with music and friends and laughter and to have a few drinks - like, that's what people do to celebrate? It didn't take long to realise that having a few drinks isn't really in the plan for me, however I loved that I could think about partying and I am enjoying the sense of exhilaration that comes with knowing the dragon no longer has that hold on me.

I will put on a party when my house is rebuilt later this year and I have a beautiful new home all set up for entertaining. In the meantime I'm going out to have Pizza with my sons and daughters-in-law. They are all elated too and wanted to celebrate. And my friends all have ear to ear smiles when I tell them, it's wonderful - a miracle even.

What would be even more wonderful is for every single person in the world who has Hep C to get treatment without any hassles. That would be my wish if I met  the Wizard of Oz . . . . .

Today my Doctor sent me a text: 12 weeks post treatment blood test results - Virus Undetected SVR

Also, I had a liver scan yesterday, the Surgeon said he could easily see the lesion that has attracted attention and he believes it will be a simple matter to ablate it.

In around a month's time I will not only no longer have Hep C but also the wee growth in my liver will be history!!

I am very happy smile smile smile
