Gracie oh Gracie!  I am so happy for you.
Just read your stats that say you were at 6 million, omg!

It's been 2 years for me and the ultrasound & fibroscan show my liver has healed halfway (from almost F3 to F1/0-borderline) so it will take another couple of years for me.

Like Malcolm said, there will be patchiness so have no fear, you have won this battle.

Time will heal your wounds and memories.

Gracie,

A normal sized spleen is great. However there is quite a range of 'normal'. In my experience, a longitudinal axis length of <13 cms is normal .The best thing to do is to compare the size with that of previous Ultrasounds or CTs etc. In my case, the splenic length has reduced from 12.5 cms to 11 cm. The first sign of portal hypertension is mild splenic enlargement.

'Smooth surface' doesn't mean a lot. I have always had a smooth surface. By the time the surface becomes nodular or irregular (on ultrasound), there is advanced liver scarring. CT or MRI are better at seeing early nodularity.

A normal liver has a homogeneous echo pattern on ultrasound.i.e. it has a regular grey appearance. Just a bit of fat or fibrosis will show as a bright spot, and then the echo pattern is called heterogeneous. This is very common in normal adults.

So relax. Get a followup in 6-12 months, but keep the present images and report for comparison. Enjoy life.

Thanks everybody! You guys are amazing friends and the only people I've really talked to about all this.

It has been one long road Scruffy, and at one time I thought I would never reach SVR. I'm relieved, so happy... Still can't believe it. Every time I remember a big smile comes on my face.

Hi Gracie,

I'm sure Malcolm will come by to give you the added reassurance re no focal lesions.

Your test results sound great. Maybe when we have been so worried for so long we're fearful of just accepting good news at face value, because if we do, and something bad happens, we'll have to armour up again. it doesn't make any sense logically but I think it's just our way of coping with stress generally. Once we think we've seen a bear's eyes at the entrance to our cave, it's hard just to turn over and go back to sleep even when we know it was just a couple of stones glistening in the moonlight.

So looks like you'd better just take a deep breath, and start living your virus free life.

So happy for you.

Syd

Thanks Malcolm,

So the patchiness is most likely fibrosis?

And I'm thinking a normal sized spleen is good evidence of no advanced cirrhosis too?

And it being smooth, would a badly damaged liver not be smooth? They certainly don't look smooth in those pictures they show right? Would that show on an ultrasound?

Just reaching for some news that this is a somewhat good result for my own piece of mind.

Congrats Gracie.

No need to worry about the Ultrasound. I too have 'heterogenous' liver parenchyma. It just means some patchiness in the echo-pattern. Whether it's due to a bit of fat or fibrosis is not important.

The big thing is ' No focal lesion'. Cheers.

Yea, that cyst has been there a couple years. She said no issues with that so that's good. Actually glad to be getting regular screening as it will pick up other things too. Good for the worry part of my brain.

Hopefully Malcolm will drop by and clear up the parenchyma comment for you but other than that it looks good to me. That's obviously a benign cortical cyst since no further comment was made so don't worry about it. I have one too in the upper pole of my left kidney. They'll check it again for comparison in 6 months. No focal lesion is good news. You've got me beat with normal gallbladder, no cholelithiasis, unremarkable spleen and no free fluid. I'll be interested to see what Malcolm says too.

EDIT - You beat me to it Tig

Sounds like you've got a bit of a fatty liver issue going on there. No lesions noted and everything else is unremarkable. There's a small cyst in the right kidney, but it doesn't appear to be a concern. Malcolm can elaborate on this and I'm sure he'll provide some input when he checks in.

After so many years, the third time was most definitely the charm. Met with my hepologist today, and she gave me the official SVR 12 (actually 13) weeks still UND! I just am really finding it so hard to believe.

I talked to her for a bit about me, and my tests etc., with my platelets rising and AFP normal, and she said she absolutely expects me to come back to minimum F3 maybe even F2. And she told me that unless I got another liver condition or started drinking heavily, that my liver should be fine from now on. Everything is working as it should, and will continue to. Still a slightly higher than somebody who never had hepatitis of getting HCC, but only slightly. Bloodwork is now every 6 months with an ultrasound, and she may even change that if my fibroscan shows improvement in the next 2-3 years. I've attached my awesome VL test, as well as my ultrasound results which is a bit greek to me, but she explained it wasn't too bad so I'll go with that.

So stoked! And I have been feeling better for sure. Pains in hands and feet only occasionally. More energy. Sleeping better. It's a whole new world!

Conclusion: all the pokes, pills, scratching, bitching, pill paranoia, ice cream binges and phantom aches have been totally absolutely 100% worth it! Power on dragon slayers... We've got this dragons kryptonite!
