Thanks for the ideas! I'm pushing with walking as much as possible and am lifting a lot of 10 lb weights... haha.

My nurse suggested brisk 10 minute walks - it signals to your body to start pumping up your blood stats again. You can progress to short sprints if you feel confident.

Congrats on the last shot Derek, and today must be your last on tx, excellent!  biggrin

All the best of luck to you with the job, in six weeks time I`m sure you`ll be feeling a lot better.  Just try not to overdo it though, take it step at a time.  And as Alan said, keep on drinking water, tx can leave you quite dehydrated.

Great idea about the juicing, I`ve just got a juicer and am enjoying trying out different combinations of fruit and veg - I can almost feel it doing me good!

Thanks everyone!! I just got back from the local Co-op with all organic fruits and veggies and juiced for the next three days. Thanks for the juicing idea Mark! I love to juice but my energy has been so low I couldn't push myself into doing all the work. But It sounds like pushing myself is the best thing to do at the moment.

Alan, Thanks for the idea about the vaccines. I'll talk to my doctor next week when I get my last blood tests done before the one in 6 months.

Sean, Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping I'll start getting energy enough to hit the gym and gain back some of the 20lbs of muscle i lost through this treatment before I have to start loading gear in june.

Eating and exercise.  I am almost three months post tx now.  When I finished the riba, my appetite and energy started coming back.  At about three weeks post tx, I felt hella better and had energy again.  Exercise is what your body needs right now.  Going on 3/4 of normal oxygen to your muscles for half a year takes a toll on them.  Ease into it, you will get very sore at first with a little exercise but your stamina will come back in a few weeks.

cool Derek,... you are almost there, though I don't have the answer you seek, I would just say power through, rest when you can,...I do wish you well at this job, it sounds like a great opportunity, I hope you are back to feeling great right away. Blessings, Iris

Congrats Derek on your last shot!!! Man, that is awesome! I'm not there yet so I don't have any wisdom to share as far as getting your strength back. I have heard from a friend post tx that juicing and specifically that wheat grass juice builds the blood. Also pomegranate is a blood booster.
If you try those let me know if you felt any benefit.

I agree with Alan.  Best way to expedite feeling better is to push yourself physically just a little more each day.  Even when you don't feel like it -- and of course that's the hard part!

I don't know how you could speed things up, other than to continue drinking way too much water, eat three square meals every day, and get to the gym or out in the yard for some exercise. If you are like me, you will not be up to your pre-treatment levels as far as exercise goes, but I have found that regular workouts seem to "train" my body how to better deal with the reduced hemoglobin. As for the white cells and neutrophils, that is another question. Will you be exposed to any goofy diseases over there? Will you need shots? You might want to get some professional advice about that, since your natural ability to fight disease is way down. But other than that, stay active, eat well, and listen to your body. You're a young fella', and you can take a beating without much effect, as long as you don't overdo it.

I pretty much summed it up, up top. I took my last injecton on Saturday and only have until Thursday on Ribavirin. I was anemic and anemic with white blood cells too. I have an awesome job opportunity for two weeks in the Dominican Republic in 6 weeks. I will be lifting heavy things and be working long hours (a photo school which I will be an assistant). I just want to make 100% sure that I'll be up for the challenge when It comes.

So my question is what are all the steps I can take to raise blood levels, feel healthy again and be ready to kick some butt?
