Just keep expecting the best! He is Toing and that helps plus having a loving wife helps too.
Hope he will go to AA such a wonderful way of living. I sobered at 27 years old.
I am sure that's why my liver is still working at 53!
Good luck, JoAnne

Thanks everyone, so far we are good.  He slept well last night and he has a bit of a rash.  I think part of that is due to the extreme heat.  fingers crossed for the rest of the treatment.  I think that the doc will re-evaluate after the first month of blood work and we will see were we are as far as meds are concerned.

Sx are overblown most of the times, to me at least...  Is he  going to be on Victrelis in a month (gen 1), or continue with just Riba and interferon (gen 2 or 3)? Judging from my experience he's gonna feel throught tx the same way as he started. Getting rid of alc addiction is a must during tx and preferably after. Tylenol PM or Motrin PM and/or Benadryl should fix the sleeping problem. At least it did for me.

Good luck, keep us posted

I've heard that some have few side effects, while that wasn't my case. They are do-able and with some support and commen sense he can get through this.

If he just quit drinking, I hope he is getting some support like AA or some other?

My insomina reached a point that I was prescibed a mild anti-depressent that helps with sleep. Trazodne  This is something he may want to discuss with his care-giver.

I'm only 5 days into Incivek, Peg and Riba and things are slowly building but nothing like I feared.

Most of us experience a little insomnia from time to time. Mine seems to take the form of restless legs keeping me awake. But fact is, most folks do have some insomnia. Couple that with putting down the alcohol and I bet the ol' boy is not able to rest. I have a feeling this will get better soon. It is a very good thing he has decided to stop alcohol, at least during treatment. I think most doctors would refuse to treat a patient that was not willing to do that.

Good luck with all this, and I hope he continues to see minimal side effects.

Alan

My husband was recently diagnosed with genotype 1 hep c and has stage 2 liver cyrohsis.  He is only 35 and the doctors believe that he contracted hep c from his mother when he was born.  We finally decided to start treatment but delayed because we have both been terrified at all we have read about side effects.  Weighing things out and a lot of discussion and a liver biopsy later we decided the chance of living a normal life and living outweighed the concerns.  I gave him his first injection this past Friday and he started the pills Saturday.  I have been waiting for the ax to fall for the last 3 days...will the side effects begin when the meds start to accumulate or is it possible that he won't have any.  He is kicking a drinking habit as well so things are scary any way...he says he feels suprisingly good...the only problem he has is insomnia but he doesn't sleep well when he doesn't have a couple of drinks before bed anyway so I don't know if this is the medication or the lack of alcohol in his system.
