Hi Judy, hope you've had a good break and you're obviously ready to climb back into the saddle. Good luck with the Bx- hopefully you won't get any R shoulder pain. The results will be interesting. I went from F2-3 in 1998 to F4 in 2007, but I'm older and male. Your Rx may have slowed things up- hope so. Best of luck.

Well, I'm getting another liver biopsy on Tues, Dec 4.  My last one was in March 2000 and I was Grade 2/4 and Stage 2/4.  In a nutshell it said "mild limiting plate necrosis" and "portal-portal septa with architecture intact".

It took 16 years for my liver to get to that point.  That was nearly 13 years ago.  The 23 weeks of triple therapy (with Vic) that I was able to tolerate gave my liver a break.  So it likely went to worse and then perhaps a little better, is my guess.  I have no idea what result to expect.  I've had pretty clean living, so hoping that helps.  No smoking or drugs but I did occasionally drink.

I'm SO nervous.  In 2000 I got a horrible referred pain in my right shoulder after biopsy.  Will never forget that; it actually made me cry and that is not easy to do.

Thank you for the info, Malcolm.  Interestingly enough, nurses give out different reasons as to why we get the referred shoulder & neck pain.  (There can't be nerves in the liver since we don't actually feel liver pain, but I do occasionally feel pain around the upper right abdominal area.)  Well, this time, the nurse clearly told me last week that they can't see the nerves during the guided procedure, so sometimes one is hit and that causes the shoulder pain.  I see online that another patient's dr told her that the rt shoulder pain is due to blood getting on a nerve.  Hope I get a good operator!

Malcolm, you're talking about the phrenic nerve, right?  I've read the biopsy needle passes very close to that nerve.  Oh man, I wonder if the folks at Kaiser are very good at this!
