Thanks Jack.  Yes, you`re right, and as a mother myself I can`t begin to imagine how dreadful it must feel to be in that situation.  Luckily for so many of us Hep C isn`t that easy to transmit.

There have been previous studies which have indicated that breastfeeding is safe for mothers infected with Hep C, but it`s a question that comes up from time to time and I thought this would be useful information to have here.

That's great news for many woman around the world, I wish HIV reacted the same way Many mothers in our poorer nations have no alternative but to breast feed their babies knowing that there is a very real risk of transmitting it to the child. Thanks for all your great info and research you do for us all.

Inactivation of Hepatitis C Virus Infectivity by Human Breast Milk

30th Sept, 2013.  An interesting study that looked at breast milk and the transmission of HCV.  The authors concluded that human breast milk has antiviral properties against the hepatitis C virus that prevent the transmission of HCV.  This study adds important information about the lack of HCV transmission via breast milk and what in breast milk inhibits HCV.  It also validates the recommendation that HCV positive mothers can breast feed their babies without risk of HCV transmission.
