Hi from me to

I had slightly elevated levels after being tested positive for a DVT, thankfully ultra sound was clear. The drs didn't inform me at the time of the slightly abnormal results. Long story short a year later this June i had routine bloods done and credit to my GP noticed that again they were slightly elevated and was sent for Hep c test and tested positive...the rest is history. I think you have a legitimate reason to request a test, not sure what country you are in but here in UK its an expensive test...the wonderful institution that is the NHS means I have the year long treatment for free.

Hi boatrider1,

Agreeing with most everyone here. liver enzymes can go up for other reasons. I too was told for Years stop drinking. With that never tested hep c so didn't know and drank anyway now stage 3 cirrhosis.  Get the test to ease your mind. And if infected  you found an excellent support group to get advice and speak whats on your mind. Being on this forum has help me cope with the fears, wondering and questions away for me.

Good luck with the test hope you get Neg  but if you don't we're here.

boatrider1,

Welcome to the forum.   I would say that if you had worked in an environment where many were infected with HCV, you should get a PCR test to confirm whether or not you are infected.

I worked in detentions facilities for over 25 years, where approximately 40% of the occupants are infected.

There is no documentation that I became infected there, and  is certainly a moot subject now.

I had elevated ALT for years (slightly over limit), but some GPs where more into ("it's from alcohol"), until one GP said i should do hepatitis tests. My mom has elevated ATL, but she doesn't have hcv (just a tad fatty liver). My good mate also has elevated ALT and fatty liver, but no hcv. Best to be sure, do those hepatitis tests (ELISA, antibody markers, if positive then PCR RNA).

cheers

Mine were slightly elevated (in the 40s) and it raised a flag so my doctor recommended the test. Get the test done so you don't have to worry about it. There are other reasons your ALTs could be raised. Best to be sure.
