Hi Kristen, I`m very pleased for you that you`ve reached your last pills, and I know it hasn`t been easy for you.  I completely understand the feelings you describe and I know first hand just how bad the side effects from ribavirin can get, I didn`t recognise myself as the same person during the worst times.  I can tell you that it does improve quite quickly once treatment has finished though!

I`m so glad you found us and were able to share your journey with people who understand, and thank-you for all your informative and heartfelt posts and comments.   You`ve shown so much determination and I`m sue you`ll carry that with you into your new life.

I wish you all the best for a swift recovery and SVR!  Best of luck with your house move, and please do keep in touch!

Hi Kristen:

I wasn't here when you started your treatment journey a few months ago but have been reading your more recent posts with interest.  I really enjoy your honesty and sense of humor (I especially liked when you described how your doctor tried to kill you).  The insight, realism, and details you bring are very helpful to many.   I am so glad you made it through.

Now tx is behind you; it is off to NY, then into your new home, and then SVR for you.  Well done and I wish you only the best life has to offer.

Kristen,

I read your post slowly and thoroughly , and i found so much in common and so similar to what I had thought, felt and experienced while on treatment.   Good luck and best of wishes for you, in the "post dragon" phase of your life.  smile

Very, very happy for you, Kristen. ;)  You've been a trooper through all of this and a most informative one, at that. Thanks for all the detailed posts regarding your insurance/pharmacy struggles. They have been helpful and instructive for all of us.

Now.. on to SVR!

Kristen,
Congratulations. Hearing about your experiences with the treatment sure has helped me (and many others, I'm guessing). It helps knowing one is not alone in this situation and that it can be achieved. I've been on the same path and what an up and down battle it's been. 12 more days to go, and I keep thinking about when the RIBA will start to dissipate. Best of luck on your new hepc free life! And new house! Please post about how you're doing over the next couple months when you can.

I have 14 days to go and I feel pretty much how you described. I cheer myself up by looking at the 2 shots I have left in the fridge. .one of them I'm taking tonight. The countdown keeps me going! Congrats to you & I hope you have a speedy recovery from tx!

Congratulations Kristen!! I'm so happy for you. You fought hard to get to where you are today. I was impressed with your desire and ambition then and continue to be proud of the accomplishments you managed during tx and it looks like you've filled your plate full of new tasks to work on as you move forward following treatment. Motivation certainly isn't a quality you lack! I'm proud of you and thrilled that you have a Hep C free future firmly in your sights. You earned it and it's been a joy to watch you take charge and achieve what you set out to do!! Keep up the good work and keep us in the loop. Good luck with your new home and have fun at that reunion! Lot's of good news in your life right now, woot!!

Enavigo3891 congrats on getting through the treatment. I did the riba with peg-interferon back on 2005 and the itchiness was the absolute worst. That is what keep me from sleeping! You will feel better real fast. I wish you luck with your new home and more importantly your new health!!

Hey All...

At 7:27pm ET this evening I took my last three Ribavirin pills! It has been a long 12 weeks. The first four seemed to go okay once I got the hydration and headache thing down pat. The middle four seemed to just take forever. I seriously had moments of doubt as to whether or not it was ever going to end. The last four (I'm going to be totally honest) ... have pretty much sucked. The Riba took hold of my personality and attitude like a lion locks onto its prey. My emotions became uncontrollable (happy tears, sad tears, anger, etc.) My sleep became all messed up (when I did sleep). The annoyance of the riba rash seemed to only fuel the riba rage. My hands are dry, rashy, and have sores where I've apparently scratched through the rash in what little sleep I do get. I feel like I could sleep for weeks. I have zero attention span and zero short term memory. Considering I have always been one to be on top of my game 24/7 this has been the hardest to handle. I have post-it notes everywhere, always feel like I'm forgetting something, and can't seem to get ahead in anything. I almost feel like I've been my own puppet master this past month. Some sliver of clear sanity that remains in the depths of my mind has somehow been able to keep me moving through the days (physically - not mentally). However... I did it. It's over. I thought I'd be jumping for joy on this day but to be honest, I'm just shot. I look forward to waking up each morning from here on out knowing the meds will be dissipating from my system day by day.

I'd like to say thank you to each and every one of you. Even when I wasn't posting I was reading and learning. This forum is absolutely wonderful and I'm not sure how these past 12 weeks would have gone without it.  THANK YOU!!!!

I will likely be MIA for a bit. I close on my new house this Thursday. Then Saturday I fly out to NY for the weekend - a quick family reunion. Then hopefully I'll get moved into my new house by the end of the month! Lots to do.

Thank you all again. And for those of you just starting or waiting to start - you can do it. I went into this telling myself it wouldn't be terrible but it wouldn't be great either. I think that kept my expectations in check for the most part and was a good way to go about it. Then i was pleasantly surprised when I felt okay and accepted it when I didn't. Set yourselves a plan - stick to it and stick with this forum. For some, like me, it's the only place to go to vent or talk to others that have a clue what you're going through!  I look forward to my blood test at the end of July - hopefully I will remain UND.  I look forward to continue seeing posts about others becoming UND for the first time and reaching SVR!!!  All of us have strength we are unaware of until the hot breath of the dragon touches down our necks and reminds us what we're made of!  Good luck to you all.
