Hi Shannon,

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad you posted this question. There are a couple of reasons he's having the rash and you know one of them is the Incivek. That stuff is well known for causing extremely uncomfortable rashes and skin irritations. The second is the Ribavirin your Dad is taking. It can cause some very uncomfortable rashes all by itself. First and most important thing to tell him is to NOT SCRATCH!!! That alone can make these rashes much worse and very quickly. The Riba rash we call it, tends to be located on the trunk, arms, legs and face. My rash showed up with raised areas and little tiny red bumps that itched like hell. They started out the size of a nickel and got bigger, especially when touched. Scratching made them grow almost immediately. The use of topical creams and ointments help, things like triamcinolone cream (from the doctor) and calamine or caladryl lotions which can be bought over the counter help. Oatmeal baths in lukewarm water help, don't take hot showers or baths, they can aggravate the problem. I found ice packs wrapped in a towel for brief periods would calm down the angriest of "itch attacks" . There are oral drugs, like Zyrtec or Benadryl that will help to control the itching, but check with your doctor before adding any medications to your treatment regimen.

If we can be of further help, just ask! We have a lot of good and knowledgeable people here and we all hope your Dad continues to move forward with treatment. Stopping the Ribavirin completely is a bad idea. It can be done for a few days but these treatments are designed as a combination of drugs, removing them from the mix changes the outcome and reduces the rates of success. He needs to continue the Ribavin asap. I would see if you can get in and see the doctor sooner if possible. Good luck.

Hey everybody. I'm here on behalf of my dad. I'd get him to come by it took me three month to teach him how use his cell. He's been on treatment for 15 weeks now. He I'd twelve weeks on incivik with copegus. Now he i only on copegus the pill and a weekly shot. He just came back from his weekly shot and was taken unofficial the pills due to a rash. He's had a rash for aprox 7-8 weeks now and still not improving after finishing incivik. Jhelum has an apt with his specialist on fri and I'm looking for info that he could get to hopefully help the rash and keep him on the treatment. His twelve week test showed he was clear. Anything Winford's would help
