I had HepC when both of my children were born (didn't know it at the time).  When I found out many years later, I immediately had them both tested and they were fine.  Try not to worry, but have the child tested later on.

The thought that I could have infected one of my children was the scariest thing for me too. Although like Jill, mine were both older when I was diagnosed, and believe me, I wasn't able to relax until their tests for HCV came back negative. The odds are, the baby is fine.

Oh yeah and I breastfed both children.  The only time its risky is if they make your nipples bleed but I actually pumped my milk everytime.  breast milk is like gold!

Hello Jennifer, welcome from me too. 

It must have been a shock getting the diagnosis of Hep C but as the others have said it really isn`t as scary as it sounds.  You`re young and won`t need to think about treatment for a good while yet. The risk of passing the virus on to your unborn child is extremely low and lots of us here went through pregnancy not even being aware that we were infected.  My two children were young teenagers by the time I got my diagnosis and when I had them tested they were both perfectly healthy and free from Hep C, and many others here have had similar experiences.

Hi hellokitty30.  I found out I was HepC positive while pregnant with my son in 2008.  I thought for sure this has to be incorrect.  I was checked again for false positive and surely I was/am positive.  In many ways I have to thank my Gynecologist for testing me or I would have never known to this date that I had Hep C.  I delivered by first born in 2008 and decided not to treat and had my second born in 2012.  Both children are healthy and happy and I have no idea if they are infected.  I don't want to put them through a blood test so young as there is nothing we could do for them at this age anyway.

I did have cholestasis during both pregnancies that I think I was susceptible to because of the HepC.  I had itching that cam from within the bones.  It was maddening and no topical creams would help it.  I did some research and came up with my diagnosis.  I told my doctor to test me for it and I was positive.  Many doctors don't test for this during pregancy because itching is normal in pregnancy so I tell everyone I meet that if they feel itching that is unbearable to get tested.  Just something to keep in mind.  You might not ever get it :)

Thank you for all your responses much love x And mogsy horray for babies indeed. Mollani thank you so much for explaining it to me my doctor had no idea I feel so much better just knowing all this :) U have 1b as well i don't know much about it just what I have read on google :( I'm so confused how I have got it and how long I have had it... There's probably no way of telling is there? We're u cured :)

They have not tested this on expected mothers, so I doubt it,

  HCV Genotype 3a , now Psot-Tx was on S/riba. First VL was 5.8 mil on 7-5-13 then "und" at 3.8 weeks. 06/13/14 still und. off meds 3 days back on 7/29 Last pill 08/10/14 SVR+4

For what it's worth, I did not know I was HepC positive when I had my three children ( the youngest is 25 and the oldest is 32) and no one was infected.

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the Forum from a fellow Aussie. Your Viral Load is 2.9 million i.u./ml. The 6.46 is the same number, given as a Log. value.

The range of Quantification for the test is 15 to 100 million at your Lab. This is pretty standard. Your VL is medium-high, and I was Genotype 1b as well.

As Isiscat said, forget about treatment for a while. The risk of passing it to your baby is extremely small, and you don't want any antiviral drugs until baby is weaned.

Sovaldi has been approved by the TGA in Australia on July 4th., but it won't be on the PBS in the foreseeable future. At your age, you shouldn't have significant liver damage, so you can relax, enjoy your pregnancy, then consider treatment in a year or so. By then, the new DAA's may be available on our PBS. Feel free to ask any questions. Cheers.

Oh darn, Australia uses a different quantification formula, and I don't know how to read that viral load count.  I don't want to guess and give you the wrong information. We have a member here who is an Australian physician so best to wait for him to interpret that.  He should be by soon.  

No, you can't go on treatment while you are pregnant.  The treatment you should have access to will be even better in a couple of years.  Australia has approved the new drug called Sovaldi but it isn't being covered yet in Australia.    As long as you don't have significant liver damage yet it should be fine for you to wait.

yeh i know i have the Hepatitis C 1b my doctor didnt give me any information on it what so ever just sent me to the liver clinic with a referal ...

the linear range of this test is 15 100,000,000

:)

 

thats the hepatitis c viral load test results...

P.S.  I noticed that you are only 31 years old which means you are probably very healthy.  Any idea how long you have had the virus?

Don't be scared.  It will be okay.  It sounds like you already know you have the hep c virus and you are trying to figure out what your viral load is.  If you post the results of your test we can help you interpret them.

Many HCV positive women have given birth.  Some women don't even know they have the virus until many years after they give birth but their child is fine. The odds of the baby having the virus are very low.

ive recently been given my results im 1b genotype...and 10 weeks pregnant..i got my HCV RCN VIRAL LOAD results back and my doctor said she had no idea what it meant and told me the people at liver clinic will tell me the results but im probably not seeing them till after the baby...

can anyone help me figure out the results?
