I couldn't find any information on it. When I looked it up I used "Moderba". I spelled it wrong. Thanks for getting back to me on that!

Hi Tig,

No worries, smile

I guess Modreiba must be Abbvie's Canadian ribavirin.
It says Moderiba in big letters and ribavirin in small letters under it.

I totally missed your intro here last month and came across it this morning, sorry about that! You're well aware by now how effective this protocol is and you should do very well on it. 

I was reading your signature and wonder if you could tell me what the "Moderba" component of your treatment is? I tried to find some info and came up blank.

Thanks for the welcomes Marsha, Jill, Penny and Groupergetter.

I almost did interferon/rib treatment in 2001 when I found out I had HCV, but the situation unfolded in such a way that I decided to wait.
My VL was 7 million at that time, and now it's only 700K so I'm pretty sure I am going to get rid of this beast.
Our program here only pays for one try, it's still cheaper than a transplant but there's no point in arguing with bureaucracy, so I'm going to be super dedicated to following the protocol.
I'm relieved to read that many people have had success with the V-pak/H-pak.

Welcome Alison. 

You've found a great place with wonderful, knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate people.  Lot's of good info and experiences in dealing with health  issues and treatment of hcv.  Glad to hear you're getting started.  As you can in my signature line I recently found SVR after numerous tries.  You'll be there before long. :)    Btw. my wife also teaches art in elementary school and is a really gifted artist in many different mediums when she has time. Over the years she has done pottery, stained glass, painting/drawing, silk screen, beautiful hand embroidery, beautiful woodburning, calligraphy, and many, many different crafts. She will be retiring this year and may actually find time to pursue her gifts.

The new tx's aren't too bad and "cure" rates are high.   Best wishes for a speedy course of treatment and renewed health. :)

Hi Alison,

Welcome to our little group.  As others have said, you'll find much knowledge and support here.  I'm on week 9 of a 12 week program of viekira pak and riba.  Everyone reacts differently, but for me, the first couple weeks were the hardest, and even that was pretty manageable.  

This is a very safe place to ask anything.  Even if you just need a little sympathy cuz you feel crumby, here's the place to get it - we've all been there and want to help you through it.

Hi Alison, welcome...I`m glad you`ve taken the plunge and joined us here!

Great news that you`ve just started your Holkira Pak, you should do very well on this excellent treatment.  You may find you have some side effects from the ribavirin, for example tiredness and irritability, although as you`re only doing 8 weeks you probably won`t experience much difficulty.  I expect it will go by very fast.

I sympathise with how sick you`ve been for such a long time and had to leave a job you loved.  I also suffered badly with chemical intolerances for many years and  know how difficult and unpleasant that is.  Since I successfully cleared the virus and reached SVR that problem has improved immensely, as well as my general health and energy levels. 

You`ll find this is a very friendly and supportive group, so keep in touch and we`ll be with you on your journey.

I am pretty excited to be on treatment and to finally get rid of this virus.

I've been pretty sick for a long,long while, having bad liver function led to me developing immune problems and food/chemical allergies.
I've had to give up my beloved job of 24 years, teaching art at a really cool elementary school. cry

I am so glad that forum members have made it clear how important drinking water is with treatment.
I never really eat much, so that's being a challenge, but I'll get it sorted.

Hello,
I just joined the forum although I have been a lurker in the past.

I am level 4 fibrosis/ cirrhotic and am/was treatment naive
I started treatment yesterday.
I am taking the Abbvie "Holkira" pak as well as rbv.
Dr wanted me on a 12 week treatment but here in BC the pharmacare will only pay for 8 weeks of harvoni.


anyhow, thanks for all the great information
