That's a s/x of the riba for sure! Hubby and I did our VP/riba together.  He'd blow up and I'd cry.  Guess that's better than both of us blowing up.smile

Now I'm done and he still has 6 weeks to go, and it's much quieter around here!

Hi Tig and Penny,
thanks for the encouragement. I think my worry about the ribas (no sides, so maybe no effects either) was much overblown: my wife informs me that I do blow up all the time since week three. I had no idea...

Tom,

Looks like you've done very well with your tx program; undetected at day 28, big drop in numbers, minimal side effects, and now only 1 week to go.  There's no reason to worry.  I think you can finish your week and look forward to some very happy holidays!  Best wishes to you!

Hi Tom,

Many of us worked in the medical field "back in the day", when biologic protection was no more than washing your hands after you spent an hour covered in blood, for whatever reason. I was in the military and there were many times when an emergency arose and there was little time to don gloves and masks, etc. So you did what you had to do, most of us then had no reason to believe these issues would present themselves decades later. Thats all water under the bridge and now it doesn't matter how we got it, but rather, that we get rid of it. So do your best to be confident and know that you're doing what you need to do to get your health back on track. You'll get through this and life will return to normal. Just stay positive, and stay compliant. You're almost through and with numbers like that, it looks like you've responded well to treatment. You've got a lot of healthy living to do, so start planning the party!! I'm glad we'll be here to support you along the road to recovery. smile

Hi All,

I am a new here, M, 58. I have been reading the board quite a lot, this was very helpful for my sanity, thanks to all of you. I am/was a little paranoid about anonymity and such, but I would like to join the forum now.

My background: diagnosed in Juli 14, I had heard that boomers should go get tested, and because my LFTs were somewhat high since the end of the seventies. I am not certain how I picked it up. I was an ambulance driver in those days, before AIDS and all that, so blood was not considered quite as dangerous as nowadays.
Got tested, VL 4 million, GT 1a.
There was some waiting, for Harvoni, and this August (by biopsy) the news that I am cirrhotic. This really sent me in a depression for a week, never had anything like that before. Always thought I was still young and healthy somehow. I never had or have any symptoms, at least nothing I recognize. Even after the diagnosis last year, I thought this will be over soon. Silly me.
I am now at week 11, with Harvoni & Riba. I w (as undetected on day 28 and the 8 weeks bloodwork was (0 week in brackets): ALT 21 (55) , AST 20 (37) , GGT 25 (71), APT 116 (136), Haemoglobin 16.6 (16.3), Platelets 226 (197). Those in the know tell me this is fine.

I had no sides to speak of, maybe a little emotional at times, but no problem. I actually felt good: active dragonslaying, three times day!

I am a little afraid of the 3 month wait that lays ahead, but after having read about what the old treatments were like, I really count myself lucky.
