Hey Skewed,

Good to hear from you, but sorry it’s because of this. HCV most definitely can cause this. Right after treatment, my hips went to hell in a hand basket! I suffered greatly with it. The severity has diminished, but I’m still hampered by it. Fortunately, I’m told it tends to improve on its own and it has, but the damage over decades of chronic infection takes its toll. There’s several articles out there.

Here‘s some info:  Viral Arthritis

my hubby has suffered for a cpl years after tx with a a muscle-skelatal pain.

. he may have had it for years before tx but it def got worse during and after tx.

he has to take pain pills if he does anything active. and of course cold weather makes it worse , and my feet get worse in the cold.

or it could be becos we lived long enough to hurt like this

my feet ache but i don't need pain meds, and i had it before tx [arthritis in hands and feet and neck]

i hope your arthritis improves... how did they know it's viral?

Id be inclined to blame the many years you had HCV wreaking havoc on your immune  system...hmm I guess it could have been caused by the treatment...( but having it start 5 years after treatment makes that seem less likely)

I'm about 5 and a half years SVR and last year I developed sudden onset arthritis--I worked one day on my hands and knees repairing my lanai screen and have had problems every since then with my right knee. Maybe I had it before and the extreme physical activity exacerbated it...

No one else in my family has it (not even my parents who are in their 80's) I'm going to contribute this as a side effect to treatment or a residual effect of having hep c for so many years.

Hi Carol,

There have been many complaints of increased arthralgia/arthritis following the administration of the new DAA’s. It’s difficult to say how long it will last, but most get relief within a few weeks following the end of treatment. If you can’t control the discomfort with over the counter anti inflammatory meds, like Tylenol or Ibuprofen (my go to), you need to seek your doctor’s advice. There has been no reason given for this EOT side effect, it just affects some people, especially those that had some arthritis beforehand. I wonder if it’s related to some immune system function that causes the joint surfaces to inflame, similar to the discomfort arthritis causes. That’s just a guess on my part, but it seems plausible.

My bad arthritis didn't bother me at all during treatment, but for the past week I'm hurting all over.  How long does it take to it to go away after the virus is gone?  Or is this something else?
